Our Wedding

Legend has it that in the spring of 2021, two recently divorced and mildly feral humans were introduced by a mutual friend who believed the best cure for heartbreak was questionable decision-making and a strong sense of humor. At the time, both parties were a little bitter, a little reckless, and heavily relying on dark humor to get through life. What started as a suggestion to “blow off some divorce steam” somehow evolved into late-night conversations, shared sarcasm, and the slow realization that maybe — just maybe — chaos is better when you face it together.-Their worlds were not simple to combine. TJ arrived with his young daughter, while Lindsey arrived with an enthusiastic devotion to animals, farm life, and the general belief that most problems can be solved by acquiring another creature. Through patience, compromise, and a healthy amount of trial and error, they began building a life that somehow made sense for everyone involved.-In July 2023, they claimed their territory: five acres in East Berlin, PA. A diamond in the rough, a work in progress, and the future home of many questionable projects and animals.-Two years later, after a night that went anything but as planned, TJ proposed out in the barn. It was as imperfectly perfect as it could have been - and the most fitting place!-Their story has been a wild and wonderful adventure ever since.-And now, since no one really reads these things anyway…If you did make it this far, please approach either Lindsey or TJ at some point during the wedding and quietly say the phrase:“I know what you did in the barn last summer.”-We will know that you are one of the chosen few who actually read the story.

Our Story

Welcome to our home! We are so excited to share this place with you. From the moment we moved here, we knew we wanted to get married on our “First 5 Acres”. That said, our property is a work in progress. It’s our home (and home to our animals), not a traditional wedding venue. You can expect a few imperfections along the way: uneven ground, farm sounds, and the occasional animal smell included. We like to think that’s part of the charm, and we hope you will too. The celebration will be held outdoors, with plenty of space to explore, relax, and enjoy different activities across the property. Our wonderful neighbors have graciously allowed us to use their land — please be respectful of their space. Venue Info

Our ceremony will be held privately the day before, so we can spend this whole day celebrating with our friends and family.-This is a relaxed, come-as-you-are kind of day. Please arrive whenever it works best for you and stay for whatever parts you’ll enjoy most!-2:00–5:00 PMJoin us anytime after 2 PM for a casual afternoon on the farm. This time is family-friendly and easygoing — with yard games, fishing, a walk through the woods trail, animals to visit, and light snacks and drinks. Come early, come later, wander in when you’re ready.-5:00–6:00 PMBuffet-style dinner, followed by a few short speeches and our first dance.-6:00–9:00 PMLive music from The Plate Scrapers (high-energy bluegrass), with a short break for cake cutting and dessert.-9:00 PM – ?Fireworks, then we’ll wind down the night with a bonfire and hang out as long as people feel like staying. However you choose to join us — whether it’s for a couple hours or the whole day — we’re just happy to celebrate with you.

Schedule

There’s plenty to enjoy throughout the day, whether you’re feeling active or just want to relax and take it all in. We’ll have yard games, a bounce house, and open space to spread out and hang. You’re welcome to fish, take a boat out, or even hop in the pond if you’re feeling adventurous. There’s also a nature trail through the woods if you feel like exploring a bit. As the day goes on, we’ll have live music, fireworks, and a late-night bonfire to wind things down (or go all night). Food and drinks will be available throughout the day, so come hungry and stay awhile — and be sure to check the schedule to catch anything you don’t want to miss.

Things to Do

What should I wear?Whatever you’re most comfortable in — truly, anything goes. Just keep in mind this is an outdoor, farm setting: think grass, uneven ground, and weather. Dress for wandering, relaxing, and possibly even swimming if you feel like hopping in the pond. What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?We’ve got you covered — tents will be set up for shade and rain, so the party goes on either way. Can I bring my kids?Absolutely! Kids of all ages are welcome. We’ll have plenty of space for them to run around — we just ask they come with their favorite grown-up attached (no actual leashes required… unless you think it’ll help). Will there be alcohol?Yes — it’s an open bar, because of course it is. We’ll have signature cocktails served by Midstate Distillery, along with mead, and a self-serve selection of beer, seltzer, wine, and liquor. Can we stay overnight?Please do — especially if you plan on partying! We’d much rather you stay than drive. You’re welcome to camp, and if you let us know ahead of time, we’re happy to help set aside a spot for you. Do you have a registry?We’re lucky to already have most of the “stuff” we need, so we’ve skipped the registry. If you’d like to give, contributions toward future projects (and turning our five acres into our dream farm) would mean a lot to us.

Travel/Accomodations One of the things we love most about our home is how quiet and rural it is — but that does mean there aren’t many traditional or “fancy” hotels right nearby. What you will find are lots of charming, local options: cozy bed &amp; breakfasts, unique/experience-style stays, and several campgrounds just minutes away (we’ll list a few below). If you’re looking for more standard hotel options, there are plenty within about 30 minutes in Gettysburg, along with some really neat historic places to stay. And of course, if you’d rather stay right here with us — we welcome it! We’re happy to accommodate campers and tents on the property. If you let us know ahead of time, we can help plan space (and even provide access to power) for overnight guests. No matter your style — rustic, cozy, or a short drive away — there are options to make a weekend out of it. Altland House Inn & Suites is located in Abbottstown, within 14 miles of Gettysburg Museum of History and 14 miles of Shriver House Museum.
